MaxProf Supports Salem Baby Centre Amidst Tough Times

Introduction

On 23 May 2024, MaxProf supported Salem Baby Centre in East London with goods worth R13000. This gesture of kindness ensures the centre’s crucial services to the community continue. Ms. Tanya Daniels, the centre’s Skills Teacher, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of Director Ms. Lereen Naidoo, and the families benefitting from the centre.

Background

Salem Baby Care Centre, a community-based, non-profit organisation, has been a lifeline for destitute mothers and their babies since its inception in 1991. Founded by Ria Stanton, who initially offered support from the trunk of her car in the parking lot of a local liquor store, Salem has evolved into a beacon of hope for the community. Over the years, it has moved from makeshift locations to its own purpose-built premises, thanks to the support of local organisations.

Operating in one of the poorest regions of South Africa, the Eastern Cape, Salem Baby Care Centre confronts the harsh realities of poverty and unemployment on a daily basis. For many families, Salem represents a vital lifeline, providing not only essential supplies but also guidance and support in navigating the challenges they face. These include providing monthly food parcels to families, establishing a fundraising committee to secure ongoing funding, and implementing skills-based literacy programmes to empower mothers to lead independent lives. The centre also aims to assist mothers in becoming economically self-reliant through vocational training programmes, enabling them to generate income and support their families.

MaxProf Cares

The recent donation from MaxProf comes at a critical time for Salem, as the centre grapples with the impact of scarce donations and economic challenges. Ms. Daniels emphasised the significance of MaxProf’s contribution, highlighting the pivotal role it plays in ensuring the centre can continue its mission of providing care and support to mothers and their babies.

The presence of MaxProf’s representatives, Sales Director, Ms. Andiswa Matutu, Audit Manager, Mr Viwe Mkhiva, along with Auditors Ms Tevlon De Lora and Mr Chumani Bara, highlighted the company’s commitment to making a positive difference in the community. In addition to the R24 000.00 annual contribution that MaxProf makes to the centre, they handed over a variety of nourishing food supplies to address immediate needs and provide much-needed relief.

In closing

MaxProf’s support serves as a testament to the power of collaboration in addressing social challenges. Together, they exemplify the spirit of compassion and solidarity that is essential in building stronger, more resilient communities. In a world often characterised by uncertainty and challenges, acts of kindness and generosity remind us of the inherent goodness that exists within humanity. MaxProf’s impact serves as a strong reminder that, even in the face of adversity, compassion and solidarity have the power to uplift and inspire.
