MaxProf’s Mandela Day Rehabilitation initiative this year was a testament to our ongoing commitment to fostering positive change in the lives of those in need. Partnering with the Friends of the Needy Foundation, our focus was on providing vital support to Teen Challenge Pretoria, an organization dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating youth struggling with addiction. This collaboration highlights our dedication to creating opportunities for renewal and hope, especially for individuals seeking a second chance at life.
MaxProf’s Relationship with Friends of the Needy
MaxProf has proudly partnered with Friends of the Needy for several years, fostering a strong and impactful relationship. This collaboration has seen MaxProf make annual contributions to support Friends of the Needy’s mission of aiding those in need, particularly in the Pretoria, Gauteng region. The ongoing support reflects MaxProf’s commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of the underprivileged.
MaxProf’s Collaboration with Teen Challenge
This year, the Friends of the Needy Foundation selected Teen Challenge Pretoria as a beneficiary of our collective Mandela Day efforts. This initiative took on a new dimension with a focus on youth who have been shunned from the world and are in desperate need of a second chance at life. Teen Challenge is dedicated to rescuing and developing children and youth who are struggling with addiction. Their residential programme, based on strict religious principles, currently houses around 50 individuals on a rural plot in Donkerhoek, Pretoria, facing challenges related to infrastructure development.
MaxProf’s Contribution to the Cause
In addition to our annual contribution, MaxProf donated an additional R30,000 for the Mandela Day cause. This generous contribution was aimed at enhancing the facilities at Teen Challenge, with a focus on addressing critical needs such as improving living conditions and ensuring the safety of the residents.
The Proceedings of the Day
Our Mandela Day began with an inspiring address and prayer by the preacher and master of the home at Teen Challenge. The atmosphere was filled with hope and unity as we sang worship songs that blended contemporary beats to connect with the youth audience.
Overcoming Challenges and Moving Forward
The planned construction of a 200-meter long and 2-meter-high security wall faced a few hurdles. On the morning of the project, the required building materials had not been delivered, and the area had been without water for several days—a recurring issue. Despite these setbacks, a representative from Builders Warehouse provided valuable training on building techniques, which was instrumental in starting the wall’s foundation.
Using the sandstones delivered earlier and water sourced from neighbouring boreholes, we managed to make progress. We, together with the team at Donkerhoek also enjoyed a braai, where we heard inspiring stories from the residents about overcoming addiction and their aspirations for the future.
Looking Ahead
MaxProf plans to return to Donkerhoek to assess the progress of the wall and support the newly skilled members of Teen Challenge. We are excited to see the positive impact of our efforts and look forward to continuing our support for this important cause.
