On 23 October 2024, the uThukela District Municipality celebrated a significant event as 27 aspiring students received bursaries totalling R194,400 during a heartfelt ceremony at the Ladysmith Town Hall. This initiative, a collaboration between the uThukela District Municipality, MaxProf, and EST-Sourcing, provided essential support to students enrolled at institutions such as MUT, UFS, UKZN, Vaal, UNISA, DUT, NWU, UJ, UP, and SMU. Each student was awarded R7,200 to help cover registration fees and tuition arrears.
The event was not only a recognition of academic achievement but also a celebration of community spirit, with music and dancing that saw local councillors joining in the festivities. MaxProf’s commitment to supporting education was commended, with the company continuing to play a vital role in addressing the challenges faced by students across South Africa.
Cllr. Inkosi NB Shabalala, Executive Mayor of the uThukela District Municipality, personally presented the bursary award letters. He expressed heartfelt thanks for MaxProf’s contribution and underscored the importance of corporate involvement in such educational initiatives. Mayor Shabalala notes that these contributions have a transformative effect on students and their families, and he expressed hope that similar efforts would spread to other communities in need.
